2011 Gift of Warmth Gala Recipe Cookbook

Quoted by our own Executive Director, John Stephenson.  "We are excited to offer this fun collection of recipes that we are sure will bring great satisfaction to you and the people who join you at your table.   Satisfaction not just because these recipes are tried, true and delicious, but because money raised from the sale of this book is helping neighbors right here in Northwest Lower Michigan keep their homes warm this winter."

All 194 recipes included in this book came from the family of NMCAA.  The 2011 Gift of Warth Gala Recipe Book is available at our Cadillac, Petoskey, and Traverse City offices and can be purchased for only $10 per book.  Click here for flyer.

A few Walk For Warmth facts:

Northwest Michigan Community Action Agency sponsors Walk for Warmth fundraisers that help families purchase heat to keep their homes warm in Antrim, Benzie, Charlevoix, Emmet, Grand Traverse, Kalkaska, Leelanau, Missaukee, Roscommon, and Wexford, Counties.

Walk for Warmth is a statewide fundraising campaign, with Community Action Agencies sponsoring their geographical areas.

People who receive assistance through Walk for Warmth funds are members of your community– maybe even someone you know. They are the unemployed, the working poor, the elderly, and the disabled. They may be people who have experienced unexpected financial hardships and have household-related emergencies, and generally do not qualify for other programs.

No administrative expenses are taken from Walk for Warmth funds. All funds raised go directly to purchase heat for local residents in need.

Donations to Walk for Warmth are accepted all year long, they may be mailed to Northwest Michigan Community Action Agency: 3963 Three Mile Road, Traverse City, MI 49686, please specify which county you would like the money to remain in.

The "Spark" that started the Walk For Warmth

"The Spark" - A true tale of warm hearted people.

The state-wide Walk for Warmth fundraiser began with just one warm hearted man in 1986. It was a very cold winter that year, and Tim Kurtz was the Outreach Director of a Community Action Agency in Michigan. Tim began to feel the desperation of families when they would weep in his office because there was no help to keep their homes warm.

Tim decided to walk in his home-town streets for 24 hours in the frrrridgid February weather to understand what these families go through. What is it like to have no heat; to feel cold for 24 hours each day, he wondered? His walk made the community aware that there are many local people who need help with heating emergencies.

"The Gathering"
Since Tim's walk, warm hearted volunteers across Michigan have gathered each year to walk together and help their less fortunate neighbors with heating related emergencies during Michigan's sometimes brutal winters.
