Services

NMCAA offers many services throughout the 10 County service area.

Assets are an important part of everyone's future. The Individual Development Account Program helps limited income families build financial assets. Qualifying participants can apply for an IDA account, and every $1 (up to $1,000) they save will be matched with $2 or $3, to go toward the purchase of an asset (home, business, or post-secondary education).

The Family Self-Sufficiency Program (FSS) is an innovative, voluntary program that helps Michigan State Housing Development Authority (MSHDA) housing voucher participants achieve economic independence over a five-year period. Participants work with a case manager, to assess their strengths, identify barriers, set goals and achieve them.

The Financial Management Services (FMS) staff offers Financial Fitness workshops and individual counseling which help participants learn how to manage their personal finances (Budgeting). Along with budget counseling, the FMS staff also counsels individuals with bankruptcy and debt.

On a yearly basis during the tax season, the FMS department brings in the Tax Preparation service to provide free tax preparation for the low-to-medium income community. Tax Preparation runs from as early as February to April.

Housing Programs range from Home repair and replacement, to homeless and potential renters, to homeownership, energy conservation, and development.

The Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CSFP) is a USDA program that targets nutritionally at risk mothers, infants, children and senior citizens. A monthly food package ensures a nutritionally balanced diet. The Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP) provides USDA food to low income households through a quarterly distribution. Along with these programs, Meals on Wheels delivers meals to homebound senior citizens and Senior Luncheon Centers provide food, fun and friendship for a growing group of active seniors.

Child Development is important for a bright future for our children. NMCAA's Head Start department offers programs for children from 0 to 4 years of age.
